The Power

The Power

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” – Romans 1:16

Assuming you are a Christian, let me ask you a few questions;

  1. Do you believe that everyone goes either to heaven or hell after they die?
  2. Do you believe that God so loved the world that he provided a way through Jesus Christ for those who believe in Him to be saved?
  3. Do you believe that the gospel changes lives?
  4. When is the last time that you shared the gospel with someone?

Romans 1:16 tells us that it is God’s power for salvation. Milton Vincent’s little book Gospel Primer says:

It’s interesting that the Bible only attributes the phrase “power of God” in reference to the Gospel. Outside heaven, the power of God in its highest density is found inside the Gospel. Nothing else in all of Scripture is ever described in this way except for the Person of Jesus Christ. Such a description indicates that the gospel is not only powerful, but that it is the ultimate entity in which God’s power resides and does its greatest work.

Bottom line? There is no greater or better message that we can share. There is no need to change it, distort it, rewrite it, add to it, or subtract from it. By trying to adjust the gospel, you may destroy it. The gospel message, in all of its beautiful simplicity, is as relevant and powerful in today’s culture than it was 1,000 years ago.

With that said, you may find it interesting to know which generational group of people share the gospel the most. The answer may shock you. It’s the Millennials! Though maligned for many things these days, born again Millennials share their faith more than any other generation today. Nearly two-thirds (65%) have presented the Gospel to another within the past year, in contrast to the national average of about half (52%) of born again Christians.

In fact, as you see from the chart below, every other generation-group is declining in their telling of the old, old story, of Jesus and his love.

I would image that everyone listening or reading this wants this world to change for the better. Know this, it can only happen by God’s power for salvation.
